The Role of English Fluency in International Mobility

Jahara Napalla, Constantino G. Medilo

This study described the complex effects of English fluency to human mobility. Anchored on Lee’s Theory on Migration, a descriptive correlation design is used to analyze English Proficiency Index for the rates of English fluency and Net Migration Rate for the human mobility of selected countries to determine the relationship between English fluency and international human movement. The data are taken from the 2017 records of Net Migration Rate and English Performance Indicators. Based on the regression model, it was found out that English Proficiency rate has a very negligible effect on net migration rate and that other factors are causing the net migration rate to fluctuate wildly.  It was concluded that English proficiency has a minor role in international human mobility.
